The television anime adaptation of Yuji Kaku’s Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku dark fantasy manga has revealed the main visual, first trailer, and seven cast members. The anime is also confirmed to premiere in April 2023. Crunchyroll will be streaming the anime in the West.
Chiaki Kobayashi voices over the protagonist Gabimaru, while Yumiri Hanamori voices over his executor Yamada Asaemon Sagiri. The other cast includes Kensho Ono as Aza Tōma; Rie Takahashi as Yuzuriha; Ryouhei Kimura as Aza Chōbei; Tetsu Inada as Tamiya Gantetsusai, and Aoi Ichikawa as Yamada Asaemon Fuchi.
Kaori Makita is directing the series at MAPPA, with Akira Kindaichi working on the series composition and Akitsugu Hisagi as the character designer. Yoshiaki Dewa composes the music.
The Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku manga was serialized on the Shōnen Jump+ in January 2018. The chapters have been collected and published into 12 tankōbon volumes by Shueisha as of December 4, 2020. The manga’s 13th and last volume were published in May 2021.
The series centers on Gabimaru, who is sentenced to be executed after being captured during an assassination mission. But nothing seems to kill him due to his superhuman body. Believing his love for his wife to be subconsciously keeping him alive, executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri offers him the chance to be pardoned of all crimes by the Shogunate if he finds the elixir of life on Shinsenkyo, a legendary realm recently discovered southwest of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
