In the One Piece 20th anniversary event, Weekly Shoenen Jump’s Editor in Chief Hiroyuki Nakano announced a live action adaption of One Piece (ワンピース). It will be an American drama produced by Prison Break’s producer Marty Adelstein at Tomorrow Studios.

The mangaka Eiichiro Oda (尾田 栄一郎) did not personally appear in the event, but he did leave some comments on the coming drama, saying that “this is a decision made three years ago”.

In the event, it was also said that the production was costly and large in scale. The editor promised it would be faithful to the manga and would not disappoint fans.

Manga One Piece started in 1995 while the anime started in 1999. Both series have been running ever since then. The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a pirate whose body is rubber-like, and his journey to search for the treasure One Piece with his friends.

  1. I’m scared. This will either be amazing or awful. I pray they don’t try to ‘un’ anime the characters by changing hair colors and such. Also….. How is Zoro going to talk during his attacks.
