At the Netflix stage of Anime Japan 2023, the streaming service announced an anime series based on Fumi Yoshinaga’s Ōoku: The Inner Chambers manga, which is set to stream exclusively on Netflix this summer. Several screenshots have also been revealed together with the announcements.
Mamoru Miyano takes the role of Marino Kōjiari Koto, Eriko Matsui plays Tokugawa Iemitsu, Yuki Kaji plays Tamaei, Kikuko Inoue plays Kasuga, Jun Fukuyama plays Sutezo, Tomokazu Seki plays Mizuno, Miyu Sato plays Oshin, and Sanae Kobayashi plays Tokugawa Yoshimune. Hitoshi Kubota is the anime’s narrator.
Yu Yu Hakusho and Arslan Senki’s Noriyuki Abe is working as the director of the anime. Studio Dean is handling the animation.
Ōoku: The Inner Chambers is set in the Edo period in Japan, and centers on the Ōoku of Edo Castle, where the basis of social management and power is shifted from men to women as a result of the rapid decline in the male population caused by a mysterious plague. The series was adapted into live-action films and multiple television drama series in Japan, but it eas the first time that the series will come in the form of an anime series.
