Amazon announced that they will be airing the live-action film Jigen Daisuke exclusively on their Prime Video streaming service on October 13 in over 240 countries. The film is produced in a collaboration between Amazon Studios and the original producer of Lupin III, TMS Entertainment, and Detective in the Bar director Hashimoto Hajime!
Jigen Daisuke is once again played by Tetsuji Tamayama, who also portrayed the character in the live-action movie Lupin III. A special teaser trailer and visual was also released, where Jigen Daisuke is seen in his signature dark hat and suit with a cigarette in his mouth. The movie tells the origin story of Jigen Daisuke, Lupin’s one-and-only sidekick, and the world’s greatest gunfighter. It all begins when Jigen feels that his beloved gun, Combat Magnum, which has been with him for many years, starts to malfunction. He then visits Japan for the first time in several years in search of the world’s best gunsmith, who supposedly runs a watch shop.
The legendary manga Lupin III created by Monkey Punch has gained popularity in Japan and around the world for over 50 years. The original manga series premiered in 1967, and 1971 saw the broadcast of the first TV anime series. Since then, numerous TV specials and movie versions have been produced, and the series has become a beloved national work. Lupin III has been adapted into numerous animated series, including Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979), in addition to Lupin III vs. Detective Conan THE MOVIE (2013).
