Finished in 2016, had over 90 millions copies worldwide, manga series Bleach (ブリーチ) is of course having a live-action movie just like any other hit manga does. The film is currently in production by Warner Bros. Japan, but before that, there was almost an Hollywood version a few years ago.

The managka Tite Kubo (久保帶人) finally explained why the plan was aborted in a Weekly Shonen Jump’s radio show on 11th November.

“The director had already been decided. The actors also visited Japan and we had dinner together,” the director Kubo mentioned was Peter Segal (Get Smart). The producer was Heroes’ actor Masi Oka.

“But the script could never be settled.”

He added that sponsors’ influence was strong, and he did not compromise. In the end, everything went past the contract period and the movie was never made.

Someone said he should be more tolerant to the conditions the Hollywood side offered, but he laughed, “no…I think we already had Dragon Ball…”. Dragonball: Evolution is an Hollywood adaption of the Dragon Ball manga series. It has received mostly negative reviews, with a score of 2.6/10 on IMDB.

At the end of show, he wanted the audience to give their supports to the coming Japanese live-action Bleach.

“I think it is very close to the original work! I am looking forward to it!”

Live-action Bleach is coming 2018 Summer in Japan.
