Square Enix announced yesterday (21st November) on Twitter that its mobile single-player RPG, Octopath Traveler – Champion of the Continent (オクトパストラベラー 大陸の覇者), is delayed to 2020.
According to the producer’s letter on the official website, the release version 1.0.0 is almost complete. However, the production had to reschedule in order to make sure the the game can work smoothly after releasing. It is expected to arrive iOS and Android in 2020.
The game is set several years before the journey of the eight heroes (i.e this is a prequel).
Orsterra, a land dominated by those with Wealth, Power and Glory. Their greed and desire have plunged the world into a bottomless pit of darkness. But within this darkness, there are those who stand to fight against it.

You are a “chosen of the ring” (指輪に選ばれし者), travel the world and find those who stand against the darkness. Journey on and forge the legend of the champion of the land.
The game will continue the series’ traditional JRPG gameplay. Similar to the original game, this prequel will feature a pixel art graphic style with 3DCG effects. Players can explore the “HD-2D” rendered world of Octopath Traveler before the events of the original game.
