KLab and Kadokawa multimedia franchise “Lapis Re:LiGHTs” reveals the first PV and characters for its anime adaptation, which is expected to premiere in 2020.
The project takes place in a fantasy world where girls study to become idols, combining the powers of music and magic. The cast includes seven idol units, focusing upon the central five-girl team LiGHTs.
The franchise also includes plans for a smartphone RPG, novels, live events, and a manga by artist Hiroichi (ヒロイチ) and Shingo Nagai (永井 真吾).

▍Story
The story is set in the city of Māmukesuteru (マームケステル), which is energized by the magic sand “Kisa” (輝砂) and its crystals “Kiseki” (輝石). The girls who can unleash magic and melody via “Kisa” and “Kiseki” are known as the “Witch”. They give hope to the crowds by singing and defeating the monsters.
Dreamt to become a great “Witch”, Tiara arrives at Flora Girls College, a magic academy who trains and nurtures the young “Witch”, and the story thus begins.
▍Staff and Production
The series is directed by Hiroyuki Hata (畑博之) at Yokohama Animation Lab along with Taro Ikegami (池上たろう) as the chief animation director and character designer. The scripts of the series are overseen by Kasumi Tsuchida (土田霞) and Hajime Asano (あさのハジメ). The music is composed by Satoshi (宝野聡史).
“Lapis Re:LiGHTs Stars” will perform the opening theme song “Watashi-tachi no Startrail” (私たちのSTARTRAIL).
