A brand-new TV anime adaptation is announced for Reiko Yoshida (吉田 玲子) and Mia Ikumi (征海未亜) shōjo manga “Tokyo Mew Mew” (東京ミュウミュウ) under the title of Tokyo Mew Mew New (東京ミュウミュウ にゅ~♡).
The anime also opens a casting audition to fill the role of protagonist Ichigo Momomiya (桃宮いちご). The auditions are now open to the public until 11th May 2020 and the chosen applicant will receive an exclusive contract with Pony Canyon’s Swallow agency.
▍About “Tokyo Mew Mew”
The manga was originally serialized in Nakayoshi from September 2000 to February 2003, and later published in seven tankōbon volumes by Kodansha.
The story focuses on five girls infused with the DNA of endangered animals which gives them special powers and allows them to transform into “Mew Mews.” Led by Ichigo Momomiya, the girls protect the earth from aliens who wish to “reclaim” it.
The series was adapted into a 52 episode anime series by Studio Pierrot and debuted in Japan in April 2002.
