“Tokyo Babylon 2021” Anime Project Cancelled Due to Plagiarism

Originally scheduled for this April, the TV anime project of Clamp’s classic shōjo manga “Tokyo Babylon 2021”  is officially cancelled due to the recent plagiarism incident.

Allegations of plagiarism emerged last November when the anime’s character designs were an exact copy of a promotional photo of K-pop star Yeri from Red Velvet and a costume sold as a Volks doll accessory without permission. “Tokyo Babylon 2021” was delayed from its April release date before this announcement.

The production committee of the anime later revealed an official announcement that it has “lost faith” in the GoHands production because of this plagiarism. The committee apologized to the original author Clamp and fans, and promised to pursue the development of a new project of the “Tokyo Babylon” manga as soon as possible.
