During TGS2021, Square Enix held a special live-stream for the recently announced Chocobo GP for Nintendo Switch. In the special live-stream, Square Enix invited the game’s director, Akihiko Maeda, and the voice cast to give players an overview of the upcoming racing game.
Chocobo GP is a racing game featuring Final Fantasy’s favorite bird, the Chocobo. Whilst Chocobo racing games are not new for Square Enix, the last Chocobo racing game, Chocobo Racing, was released in 1999 in Japan. Since then, fans have been desperately waiting for the next installment. Asides from the core racing elements, the game will also include Final Fantasy elements including the ability to cast different spells that will aid players in the race, from damaging spells that disrupt your opponents. Each character will also have their own unique ability. During the live-stream, Maeda mentioned that at launch, the game will feature at least 20 playable characters/racers for players to choose from. Maeda also asked audiences of the live-stream which characters they would like to see most in Chocobo GP.
Chocobo GP is slated for Nintendo Switch and is expected to launch in 2022.
