The Sword Art Online franchise announced new anime film project titled Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of a Dark Dusk for 2022, following the success of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night.
Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night opened on October 30,2021 in Japan. The film topped the box office and earned about 349 million yen (about US$3.06 million) in its first two days.
Though no further details have been revealed for the new anime project, the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night anime film is based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series.
The light novels was launched in 2012 as a revised retelling of his original Sword Art Online novels, following the story of Kirito and Asuna as they enter the very first level of the deadly world of Aincrad.
The film is directed by Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic unit director Ayako Kawano and animated by A-1 Pictures.“Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld character designer Kento Toya and music composer Yuki Kajiura reprise their roles.
