Bkub Okawa’s “kuso manga” Pop Team Epic, is coming back for a second season and is airing in Japan as early as October 2! The insane surrealist comedy anime announced an airing date of October earlier this year, and has since unveiled that the series is airing on October 2 in Japan. The series is also airing online on Amazon Prime Video, TiKTok LIVE, and Nico Nico video on the same days.
Pop Team Epic is a surrealist comedy 4-panel manga by Bkb Okawa, read as Bukubu Okawa. The series typically features the petite and orange-haired Popuko, with her tall and blue-haired friend Pipimi. The series deals with absurd, often relatable situations, mixed in with plenty of pop culture parodies.
▍Pop Team Epic Story
Pop Team Epic has hardly anything that could be considered a story since the series itself is a 4-panel gag manga. Each “chapter” features a unique joke, or a reference to something from pop culture, including skits from Your Name, Dragon Ball, Mario, among an incredibly lost list of references.
The anime is unique, and jokingly referred to as a “Kuso anime” since the first season’s episodes would be 23 minutes long, but actually repeat content that would last half the episode, with the second half being done by completely a different voice-acting duo.
