As the release date of the Witch on the Holy Night remake is getting closer, publisher Aniplex and developer Type-Moon unveil the second trailer to preview the game’s story and worldview. The game’s ending song “Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru ni” is performed by supercell.
The video also announces two additional cast members; including Ruriko Aoki as Toko Aozaki, Atsumi Tanezaki as Lugh Beowulf, Akiha Matsui as Yuika Suse, Shizuka Itou as Ritsuka Suse, and Hiromichi Tezuka as Eiri Fumizuka. Witch on the Holy Night is also confirmed to release a demo version in November, but details are yet to be announced.
The Japanese visual novel developed by Type-Moon was first released for PC on April 12, 2012. This PS4 and Switch port will be an enhanced version with HD graphics and voice acting. Witch on the Holy Night will be released on December 8 on Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4 with Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese language options.
You may be aware of other works by Type-Moon and their main writer, Kinoko Nasu such as Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, and The Garden of Sinners. However, what fans might not know is that these works have a shared universe, and there are many sub-plots, systems, and shared characters between each of them. This official worldwide release of Witch on the Holy Night undoubtedly is a piece of big news for the series’ fans.
▍Witch on the Holy Night Worldview & Story
Near the end of the Shōwa era in the late 1980s, in Misaki town, an old mansion is rumored to be the home of a witch. After moving into the mansion, Aoko Aozaki begins to learn sorcery from a young mage, Alice Kuonji, the rumored witch of the mansion. The Aozaki family oversees the land on which Misaki is built and the heir (Aoko) is tasked with protecting it.
Mysterious intruders have been disrupting the bounded field in Misaki, leading Alice and Aoko to investigate. A mannequin or puppet attacks them and is incinerated. As this happens, both of them spot someone running away, a civilian who must not get away having seen magic alive.
Unexpectedly, a young boy named Sōjūrō Shizuki is drawn to the mansion and comes to reside with them as well.
Eventually, it is revealed that the intruder who had been disrupting the bounded field is Touko Aozaki, Aoko’s older sister. She, having killed their grandfather, now seeks to unveil the Aozaki’s path to the root.
