QooApp visited Anteiku Cafe, the cafe Kaneki Ken works for in Tokyo Ghoul!

Disappointingly, there were no human meat burgers and cannibalistic ghouls – only a long queue that almost scared us off.

The real life CAFE Anteiku in Tokyo was in fact the Tokyo Ghoul Cafe for fans, but it wasn’t much better than the original Anteiku that is filled with ghouls. Outside the cafe was a collection of Tokyo Ghoul illustrations including the violent ones, which terrified a three year old girl that walked past there…

In this cafe, fans had the privilege to try the delicious hamburgers Yoshimura made specially for Kaneki and Hinami. The tender meat tasted nothing like human. How sad!

Other dishes were also made based on the characters in Tokyo Ghoul, such as Kaneki’s red iris curry and Tsukiyama’s eyeball mousse. These dishes were eyeball free, and of course, up to standard taste-wise and appearance-wise.

An anime cafe always comes with a merch corner. Tokyo Ghoul was no exception.

The goods were not cafe-exclusive, but they were sold first at the cafe. This was important. Ishida sensei’s illustration posters would be gone very soon once sales began, so it was better to grab some in the cafe before everyone could have access!

Can you recognise these costumes?

These were the clothes worn by the live action Tokyo Ghoul actors. A bit different from those in the anime though, especially Amon Kotarou’s trench coat…We thought it was a classy Trench coat with a belt but without the weird shoulder pad things?

The kagune is always hard to be imagined. The shape, size, structure…everything about it is still as mysterious as ever even it has been animated. In the cafe, fans could finally inspect a Kagune up close by looking at these handcrafted figures.

Other movie props were also showcased in the exhibition. Sen Takatsuki’s books in real life were finally open to public! We wonder if Ishida sensei will ever write these books as a spin-off project.

Besides, the picture of young Kaneki and Hide just made us feel sad. We still can’t get over the ending of Tokyo Ghoul √A.

And this was the end of our cafe experience.

YET, our Tokyo Ghoul trip in Tokyo hadn’t finished! We were fortunate enough to catch up with the Tokyo Ghoul Twitter Gallery at Shinjuku train station!

The mini gallery celebrated the manga having sold 30 million copies worldwide and the successful live action film. The pictures there were not exclusive, however. They were the 27 most popular pictures posted on Ishida sensei’s Twitter.

The illustrations were drawn using softwares, so fans would not find any “real paintings”.

That was the end of our Tokyo Ghoul journey, but it was not the end of our anime journey. We visited many cool places. Stay tuned for more reports!

Those who can’t visit Japan to taste some of this Tokyo Ghoul stuff can still play Tokyo Ghoul games on QooApp to quench their thirst!
