The television anime adaptation of Taku Kawamura’s My Clueless First Friend has revealed a short commercial confirming its premiere date on April 9, 2023. It also revealed a new key visual and more cast members. The sister due Kitri performs the ending song “Kokorone” (ココロネ).
The key visual depicts the main characters Akane and Taiyō holding hands and their classmates in their classroom, while Kotarō, one of the revealed characters, makes fun of their relationship on a blackboard behind them.
The additional cast includes Wakana Maruoka as Sumire Kasahara, a precocious classmate who is curious about Taiyou; Kōhei Amasaki as Kotarō Kitagawa, a shaved-head classmate who makes fun of Akane and Taiyou; and Jun Fukuyama as Akane’s Dad, who puts something in his lunch box to give his daughter a chance to make friends.

▍About My Clueless First Friend
Taku Kawamura first serialized My Clueless First Friend in Square Enix’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Gangan Joker in May 2018. The manga has been published digitally in English as My Clueless First Friend by Square Enix through Manga UP! since July 2022.
The story follows one lonely, gloomy fifth-grade girl, who is the target of her classmates’ relentless bullying and teasing until a new kid arrives on the scene. Friendly Takada is as clueless as he is well-meaning, but somehow he possesses the magic ability to start drawing “Grim Reaper” Nishimura out of her shell. As the elementary schoolers experience all the fun of a childhood summer together, from going to the pool to picking sunflowers to watch fireworks… unusual friendship blossoms!
