Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Debuts on September 29 with a 2-Hour Episode

The anime adaptation of Kanehito Yamada’s and Tsukasa Abe’s Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End / Sousou no Frieren released another trailer, and announced that the anime will be debuting on September 29, with a whopping 2-hour debut episode!

The new trailer previews more characters that Frieren joined in their journey to take down the demon king, including Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel, Yōji Ueda as Eisen, and Hiroki Touchi as Heiter. The anime also updated its staff list with several new members, particularly those in charge of the show’s art direction, and sound.

About Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Frieren is an Elven Mage who was once part of the party that defeated the demon king. After defeating the demon king, she and her party, including the human hero Himmel, dwarven warrior Eisen, and the human priest Heiter observed a meteor shower that occurs once every 50 years and promised to meet them again to see the next meteor shower.

Fast forward 50 years and Himmel has passed away due to old age and regretting not being able to say goodbye properly to Himmel, sets out on a journey to pay respects to him, at his resting place far north in the continent. During this journey, she offers to teach a young child adopted by Heiter, and the pair set out on a journey to bid her farewells and learn about magic, while she reminisces on her past.

The series has sold over 7.2 million copies as of September 2022, with the manga even receiving 2nd in the 2021 “Kono Manga ga Sukoi!” award 2021, being behind Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man. The manga also won the New Creator Prize for the 25th annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2021 and was nominated for Best Shonen Manga at Kodansha’s annual manga awards in 2021 and 2022.
