Independent developer Versus Evil announced in a new trailer that its Silent Hill-Inspired horror game Stray Souls will have a new staff member joining its development team, and it’s none other than one of the creative leads behind the original Silent Hill series, Akira Yamaoka.
Akira Yamaoka’s known for being the composer of the Silent Hill series, all the way until Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. He’s also the sound director at Grasshopper games, having worked on projects like Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead, Let it Die, and more. Outside of games he also worked on the original score for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Akira Yamaoka’s latest contributions to horror titles don’t just stop at Stray Souls, as he is involved in Konami’s upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Stray Souls is an action-horror exploration game set in the haunted town of Aspen Falls.
The game has you playing as Daniel, a teenager whose life was forever changed after he was told he inherited the home of his late estranged grandmother in the town of Aspen Falls, and meeting a woman who seems to know more about the house than meets the eye, and a secret hidden in Daniel’s past. It’s up to you to help Daniel uncover his story with branching dialogue options that shape his personality, and uncover a sinister plot tied to him since his birth.
The game is an action horror shooter that features randomized enemy encounters, item placements, changing weather, and strange phenomena as a result of a fog that envelopes the town. You’ll have to fight your way through these horrifying enemies while making the most of out every resource you can find.
The game also features mind-bending puzzles that will unlock more secrets and items for completing them, all while the game is accompanied by a soundtrack from acclaimed horror composer Akira Yamaoka.
