Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning Anime Film Gets Main Trailer and Key Visual

At the Digi Fes 2023 event held on July 30, the Digimon franchise revealed the key visual and final trailer for the anime film Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, which is scheduled to open on October 27 in theaters in Japan.

The visual features familiar and beloved characters set against the backdrop of an immense cluster of Digi-Eggs floating above Tokyo Tower. Showcasing the Chosen Children, with Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode, Silphymon, Shakkoumon, Rui Ōwada, self-proclaimed world’s first human to have a Digimon companion, and his partner Ukkomon.

While the trailer takes fans back to the initial stage of the Digimon series, Hikarigaoka, where the story first started with the grown-up versions of Daisuke Motomiya and the other Chosen Children, along with their Digimon partners. Giving further insight into Rui Ōwada, whose shocking statement ‘Humans and Digimon should never have met’ hints at an interesting plot twist and how this could influence the seemingly inevitable fate that awaits the Digi-Chosen at the end of their journey.

The trailer also showcases the gigantic Digi-Egg hatching above Tokyo Tower, which in turn plunges the world into chaos, prompting the Chosen Children to once again spring into action, featuring Digimon Adventure 02’s opening theme song “Target ~Akai Shōgeki~” by deceased original Japanese singer Kōji Wada.

In addition, Harumi Fuuki, who was responsible for the music of the anime film Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, was confirmed to return for this movie.

The story of Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning seeks to unravel the circumstances behind the birth of the Chosen Children and their partnership with Digimon. Set a decade after the original adventure, the characters now embarking on different life paths at 20 year-old, find themselves united by an unchanging bond with their Digimon. A sudden appearance of a massive Digi-Egg above Tokyo Tower sends ripples across the world, propelling the remaining DigiDestined into action. However, as they confront this crisis, Rui Ōwada, a young man possessing a broken Digivice, stands in their way. The film weaves past and present, converging toward what is said to be the greatest crisis in the Digimon series.
