SNK announced the global launch of The King of Fighters XIII: Global Match, a 2D sprite-fighter that was originally released as an arcade game in 2010. Coming with a “rollback netcode overhaul” that improves the online functionality, the game will launch on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on November 16, 2023.
Remembered as the pinnacle of 2D sprite-based fighting games, The King of Fighters XIII: Global Match first started as an arcade release in 2010. A year later, it was ported to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The new console edition builds on this legacy with significant upgrades and added features.
One of the key upgrades is the inclusion of rollback netcode, ensuring smooth online matches against competitors from around the world. Additionally, SNK has overhauled the online functionality, introducing expanded lobby features and a new spectator mode to engage fans like never before.
The console version of the game has seen improvements to several unique features as well. These include an enhanced tutorial mode, designed for new KOF players to learn the moves, and an improved story mode, presenting various exclusive episodes in visual novel format.
Announced back in April, the release date was finally confirmed during an update at EVO 2023. SNK plans to release deluxe edition premium perks, including a digital art book and a digital soundtrack for die-hard fans of the series.
