[Qoo Otaku] Tokyo Adventures: JoJo Exhibition

0

Being the origin of the entire otaku culture, it almost seems like a waste to just cover Tokyo Game Show whilst we’re in Japan. Here is the Hirohiko Araki JoJo Exhibition: Ripples of Adventure at the Japan National Museum, the celebratory exhibition at The National Art Center in Tokyo celebrating the 30th anniversary of the series. In addition to the exhibition at The National Art Center, the series also had a collaboration with Mercedes, decorating the brand’s luxurious urban getaway, Mercedes Me, with JoJo-themed decorations.

Just like the title suggests, the exhibition is dedicated to showing the 30-year journey of the series. From hand-drawn illustrations by Hirohiko Araki to important developments that changed the series (like the introduction of Stand), the exhibition is truly a wonder for not just JoJo fans, but also anime lovers in general. Unfortunately, photography was prohibited for many of the works in the exhibition.

The exhibition featured audio tours available in Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and English. Whilst exploring the works of Hirohiko Araki already justifies the tickets, the audio tour gave a much deeper peek into the Hirohiko Araki’s visions of the JoJo universe. Throughout the exhibition, you can recap the iconic moments from the first generation, Jonathan Joestar vs. Dio, all the way until Josuke Higashikata, the eighth protagonist of the series. Any JoJo fan will find the exhibition exceptionally nostalgic, as you recap all the major events of each generation of JoJo.

Although the Exhibition has already ended in Tokyo, if you are visiting Japan, the Osaka Exhibition is up until 14th January 2019 at the Osaka Culturarium at Tempozan (大阪文化館・天保山).

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, outside of the exhibition, the series also collaborated with Mercedes Me, decorating the Mercedes Me at Roppongi with JoJo illustrations and a special JoJo corner with iconic manga covers from the series.
