BELA takes the center stage in this episode of TV anime BEM and we finally learn the past of this pretty young lady.
Apparently BELA has an undercover identity at a high school in the “Uppe Town” and I am surprised to see that she has besties in school considering the indifferent attitude she revealed when she was with BEM and BELO. But I like her even more after knowing that the friendly BELA is indeed a disguise for her to fit in the human society. It really reflects her desire to become an actual human.
At the same time, Sonia is investigating a murder case at the “Outside” where a young girl, Mary, was killed ten years ago. She was a student at “Upper Town”, but was forced to visit the “Outside” at night by a group of mean girls, headed by rich girl Dominic and Mary’s friend Elene.
Elene runs into BELA in a shopping mall and finds that BELA looks exactly the same with Mary. They become friends and BELA gets interested in finding the killer of the murder.
I must say that the suspense vibe is not very impressive in this episode and it is not hard to guess who the killer is. The story seems a little bit rushed and the killer’s motive just doesn’t convince me. The portrayal of the killer is a bit shallow and I don’t see why she has to go to the trouble by hiring somebody to kill her classmate.
The villain designs of this episode’s enemy is terrible either. A bowling-guy (he really uses bowling as a weapon..) suddenly appears and tries to kill BELA, which forced her to transform into monster form.
Fortunately, the monster form of BELA looks great and it really reminds me of the design of the original anime. The modern arrangement has been done to make her more intimidating, while her signature red hair is still there, signifying the passion she has towards humans. I am also surprised that she can change into another monster form when her rage outbursts and this beast form is much more terrifying.
The second episode is kind of disappointing compared to the first one and I guess it would be better if the plot is not that rush. However, I do like the episode title “LIAR”, which fits this episode perfectly. BELA is living in a lie that she makes, and the murder lies about the dirty things that she did. Two totally different lie again blurs the line between human and monster.
