During a live stream “Anime Film Gintama～Our Super Stage” (アニメ劇場版銀魂～俺たちのスーパーステージ～) on 21st December, it was confirmed that a new anime film adaptation of Gintama (銀魂) is underway. It is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters in early 2021.

The film was announced a couple of times earlier this year. During the Gintama Shirogane Matsuri 2019 (銀魂 銀祭り2019(仮)) back in March, it announced that a new Gintama anime project has been “confirmed… probably”. Then, the final volume of the Gintama manga series (Vol. 77, published on 2nd August) also revealed that a new anime film is on its way.
For now, it is confirmed that the Yorozuya trio is returning: Tomokazu Sugita (杉田智和) as Gintoki Sakata (坂田銀時), Daisuke Sakaguchi (阪口大助) as Shinpachi Shimura (志村新八), and Rie Kugimiya (釘宮理恵) as Kagura (神楽). Other details such as story, staff, and other cast are not revealed though.
▍About Gintama
The original manga series is written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi (空知英秋). It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2003 to 2018. The story centers around the daily life that is filled with both happiness and sadness of the Yorozuya trio.
