To celebrate this announcement, a special illustration was shown of the four main characters…holding the “ANIME CONFIRMED” sign upside down. The anime will premiere in October 2022.
Chiaki Kon is directing the anime at Studio Pierrot. Makoto Uezu is overseeing the series scripts, and Airi Taguchi is credited as both character designer and chief animation director. Masato Nakayama is composing the music.
▍About Play it Cool, Guys
Play It Cool, Guys, by Kokone Nata, started as a series of illustrations published on the author’s Twitter account on May 11, 2018, before being serialized as a web manga on Pixiv on February 23, 2019. The manga has also been serialized on Pixiv’s Pixiv Comic service. As of November 22, 2021, four tankōbon volumes have been released by Square Enix under its Gangan Comics Pixiv imprint. In North America, Yen Press is publishing the series in English.
The story is described by Yen Press as a bunch of cool guys who look like they got that unapproachable swag. But let’s be real—that’s not the true them. They’re just a bunch of dorks who’ve got the act down pat. So sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy watching a bunch of goofy guys trying to look cool all day every day. Play It Cool, Guys is a fun collection of stories featuring guys that are equal parts cool and equal parts adorably awkward.
