At the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, it was revealed that Naoko Yamada’s latest original anime Garden of Remembrance will be released next year in 2023. A key visual has also been released. The animation is produced by Science Saru, and features an original character design by Etsuko Mizusawa. The music is written by singer-songwriter Lovely Summer-Chan.
The “Garden of Remembrance” project was launched when Eunyoung asked Director Yamada if she would like to produce a short film with music as its core, and while nothing had been decided on the music, she mentioned the name of Lovely Summer-Chan, saying that she seemed like an “invincible girl”.
Regarding the characters, Director Yamada requested Mizusawa at her own request. She mentioned of Mizusawa’s portrayal of the girl’s charm was “what she was looking for”. In addition, part of the film of the production process was shown to event attendees.
Naoko Yamada is a Japanese animator, and television and film director. Working at Kyoto Animation, she directed the anime series K-On! and Tamako Market, and the anime films A Silent Voice and Liz and the Blue Bird. In 2021, she directed the original net animation The Heike Story under Science Saru. The studio is also known to produce Devilman Crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, and The Heike Story.
