Blue Giant Anime Film Delayed to February 2023

The official website for the anime film adaptation of Shinichi Ishizuka’s Blue Giant jazz manga revealed that the anime film will open nationwide across Japan on February 17, 2023, which unfortunately means it got delayed from its original 2022 window.

Yuzuru Tachikawa (Mob Psycho 100) is directing the film at studio NUT, which is known to produce The Saga of Tanya the Evil anime. NUMBER 8, the editor of the Blue Giant manga and the story director for the Blue Giant Supreme manga, is writing the screenplay and the scripts. The film will be distributed and animated by Toho animation.

In Blue Giant, the story centers on Miyamoto Dai, a student with a taste for basketball. However, his life changes when he sees a live jazz performance for the first time. The incredible music strikes a chord deep inside him, and he immediately decides to dedicate himself to the saxophone. He has no skills, no formal training, and no idea what he’s up against, but his obsession drives him to play that instrument day after day. Will passion be enough to become the player of his dreams?
