Detroit: Become Human Gets Manga Spin-Off Telling the Story of an Android Idol

Remember years ago when Quantic Dream’s ambitious adventure game Detroit: Become Human wowed us with its striking narrative in a world where robots are on the edge of their own social justice movement? That top-selling game is getting a manga spinoff!

Detroit: Become Human Tokyo Stories, which continues the game’s story in the near future of Japan, is written by Saruwatari Kazami and drawn by Moto Sumida. Developer Quantic Dream will be supervising the writing process.

About Detroit: Become Human Tokyo Stories

The original Detroit: Become Human story is set in Detroit in 2038 when advanced androids with human-like intelligence and almost indistinguishable appearance were manufactured. One of the androids who woke up to ego and emotions that he should not have, fights for the right that he deserved.

While Detroit: Become Human Tokyo Stories takes the whole universe to Japan. But in contrast to the growing anti-android sentiment in the United States, the android idol “Reina” gained popularity, showing a bright future for android operation. Behind the scenes, however, the dissatisfaction of humans who have been deprived of their profession by androids is emerging … Meanwhile, the story begins with the appearance of a mutant android that acts of its own will, contrary to the given “role”. The “revolution” that androids spin in Japan is depicted in the original story.

The manga is expected to release on July 22 in Japan on the Comic Bridge platform. No plans have been announced yet for an English-language version.
