The Mafia game series is celebrating its 20th anniversary since the first game was released back on August 29, 2002. To celebrate the occasion, the developers had an interview with general manager Roman Hladík and Head of Production and Media Director Tomáš Hřebíček, and announced that Hangar 13 is working on a new Mafia game!

The interview looks back at 20 years of the series’ history, and towards the end of the interview unveiled that the new project is currently in development, though it is currently still too early to share any details regarding development.

Mafia Worldview

The Mafia games take place over several years between 1930 to 1968. The games follow different protagonists, all typically good men turned mobsters, rising within a crime family of that era, from Tommy Angelo to Vito Scaletta, and Lincoln Clay in the three games.

The games are all set in the United States, with Chicago, New York, and New Orleans serving as the backdrop. The series is focused heavily on realism, with certain mechanics requiring the player to obey the laws like stopping at traffic lights or avoiding speeding in public to not arouse suspicions from the police, unlike other arcade open-world titles.

Mafia Gameplay

The main Mafia games play as an open-world title, allowing players to explore the cities the games are set in at their own leisure. Players can shoot, drive, and fistfight other gang members, and civilians with an assortment of weapons and vehicles, while also being able to purchase and own cars and view them in high detail in their own garages.
