Lupin the Third Gets New Prequel Anime Lupin Zero in December

TMS Entertainment and Wright Film announced that the Japanese manga series Lupin the Third will be getting a new anime, titled Lupin Zero, in December, and it will launch on a streaming service to be revealed at a later date. The six-episode anime will also have its world premiere at the Anime NYC event in New York City occurring from November 18 to November 20.

Daisuke Sakō is directing the anime at Telecom Animation Film. Ichiro Okouchi is overseeing the series scripts, and Asami Taguchi is designing the characters. Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Otomo Yoshihide (Inu-Oh) will be handling the music and soundtracks.

The story of Lupin Zero is set in 1960 Tokyo, where a 13-year-old boy called Lupin has yet to leave an impression on the world at large as a sneaky master of crime. The series follows young Lupin as he seeks to make his mark during a period of tremendous economic growth in Japan.

Lupin the Third is a popular Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazuhiko Kato, better known under the pen name Monkey Punch. The manga portrays the witty adventures of the master thief Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of the famous fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. It has received seven different anime adaptions so far, and the same number of movie adaptions, produced by TMS entertainment.
