The anime adaptation of Toilet-Bound Hankako-Kun / Jibaku Shounen Hanako-Kun, which first began its original run on January 9 2020 is officially getting a restart/reboot!
Announced on the anime’s official Twitter and Youtube Channel, the anime released a new trailer and key visual featuring Hanako-Kun talking to Yashiro before the two greet each other again before Hanako-Kun himself says “I’m back”.
The original artist for the series, Aidalro also released an illustration congratulating the animation project for getting a reboot. The anime reboot currently has no release date but seems to feature the same cast as the original with Megumi Ogata as Hanako-Kun, and Akari Kito as Yashiro Nene, with more cast to be revealed later.
While many have been holding their breath for a Hanako-Kun season 2, the original anime wasn’t as faithful to the source material with a few changes from the anime. Perhaps this “restart” of the series aims to be more faithful to the series, or the worst-case scenario is simply a rerun of the original with a few changes.

▍ About Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun
Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun is an ongoing Japanese Manga series about the supernatural and the famous high-school rumors of “seven wonders”. The series features the titular Hanako-Kun / Hanako-San, an urban legend of a spirit that’s said to haunt Japanese school toilets.
To summon Hanako-Kun, one must enter the girl’s bathroom, knock three times, and ask if “Hanako-Kun is present”. In the anime series Yashiro Nene gets what she bargains for, when she summons the spirit and realizes he’s nothing like the urban legend! The two become fast friends and Hanako-Kun helps her destroy spirits and fix the deteriorating rumors going on about spirits, to bring equilibrium back to the spirit and human world.
