Kyoto Animations had a lot of ups and downs in its time as an animation studio, and one of its cutest shows was definitely Tamako Market, which is if you can believe it, now 10 years old after it debuted on January 9, 2013!
To celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary, Kyoto Animations announced that Tamako Market is getting a special project, and thanked everyone for their support of the series over the years. While details of the project remain sparse, Kyoto Animations also unveiled that we’ll be getting special digital paintings for sale soon.
▍ About Tamako Market
The series follows Tamako Kitashirakawa, the daughter of a family that runs the Tama-Ya mochi shop in a local shopping district. On a faithful day, Tamako runs into a rather bird named Dera Mochimazzi who claims to have come from a distant land to find a wife for his country’s prince. After some time Dera stays at Tamako’s home and ends up becoming rather portly after eating so much Mochi. The series follows the everyday life of Tamako, her family, and her friends in this adorable original series.
Tamako Market also received a light novel adaptation and anime film called Tamako Love Story in 2014, as well as another short film called Dera-Chan of the southern Islands.
