Microids, a French video game publisher is joining hands with Japanese animation studio TMS Entertainment for a partnership to develop a video game of the classic anime series Space Adventure Cobra.
The game is currently in development and is said to allow players to take on the role of the iconic galactic bounty hunter in a futuristic and colorful universe on consoles and PC.
Microids’ CEO, Stéphane Longeard, expressed excitement over the upcoming adaptation, “We are extremely excited to work on this adaptation of Space Adventure Cobra, a legendary anime which has inspired a whole generation of fans,” he said.
“We are committed to respecting the universe and characters created by Buichi Terasawa while providing an immersive gameplay experience, faithful to the spirit of the anime series. The Cobra game promises to be a great adventure for fans and gamers looking for a rich and compelling universe”.
TMS Entertainment’s CEO, Tadashi Takezaki, was equally enthusiastic, stating, “We were very impressed with the passion and professionalism of the Microids team, and we are confident that Cobra fans will be thrilled with the new video game. We are looking forward to the final product, which promises to delight the fans”.
Microids will reveal details about this new game of Space Adventure Cobra such as its name and other information at a later date.
▍About Space Adventure Cobra
Space Adventure Cobra is a classic Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Buichi Terasawa. Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1978 to 1984, the manga is set in the far future and follows the exploits of Cobra, a notorious space pirate who is pursued by the Pirate Guild after he interferes with their criminal activities. In order to hide from his enemies, Cobra undergoes plastic surgery to change his appearance and has his memories erased, leading a normal life until his past catches up with him.
The story begins with a man named Johnson, a bored office worker who visits the Trip Movie Corporation to experience a dream as though it were reality. Johnson requests a dream where he is a king with a harem and commands a Battlestar. However, he becomes Cobra, the legendary adventurer who explores space with his partner Lady Armaroid and wields the powerful Psycho Gun. After a battle with the Pirate Guild, Cobra allows their leader, Captain Vaiken, to escape, making himself a wanted man.
When Johnson wakes up, he finds a weapon on his arm and realizes he can’t remember his past. Lady Armaroid helps him recall that he was Cobra, who erased his memories and altered his face to escape the Pirate Guild. Together, they embark on a new adventure to reclaim Cobra’s past and take on the Pirate Guild once and for all.
