PQube, a company responsible for many western releases of Japan-only titles such as the recent Alice Gear Aegis CS: Concerto of Simulatrix, announced that it will be bringing the visual novel ghostpia season one to the west in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch and PC. This release date is seemingly different from the current one on Steam, as that one doesn’t mention the publisher.

Ghostpia is a game featuring “cruel cuteness and melancholy violence”, featuring an early cartoon aesthetic with glitchy and noisy visuals. You follow a young girl named Sayoko who, after a chance encounter with a ghost named Yoru embarks on an adventure to the ghost world with wacky events and more characters to meet along the way.

Ghostpia is coming to Japan first for the Nintendo Switch on March 23, with English and Japanese language support.

About ghostpia Season One

Ghostpia is set in an isolated town that’s been cut off from the rest of the world by snow. In this town, there are seemingly ghosts that flood the streets during the night, when in actuality these are actually immortal people who took to calling themselves ghosts after some time. Yet in this town with communities and people, Sayoko is the only one in town who feels she doesn’t belong, and she shares a room with the newest face in town Yoru.

Ghostpia

The journey follows Sayoko on her journey to try to return to her hometown by breaking past the field of snow, in search of one thing she feels like she has truly lost, her dream.

Ghostpia doesn’t feature any quick-time events or branching paths and instead has a control scheme that lets you fast-forward and rewind the elements of the story for a more comfortable viewing experience. The developers state that the goal is to create an enjoyable viewing experience, akin to watching a good film.
