It turns out that the next Mortal Kobat game is not Mortal Kombat 12 as Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios announced the forthcoming release of Mortal Kombat 1, a “reborn” take on the series with new fighting mechanics and game modes.
Celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, with early access commencing on September 14 for those who purchase either the Premium or Kollector’s Editions.
Developed by the award-winning NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat 1 brings back the series’ beloved characters and reimagined them in a reborn universe crafted by the Fire God Liu Kang.
The first trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 confirms the return of some familiar faces, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and more, who can be accompanied by Kameo Fighters, special partner characters, for enhanced gameplay.
And according to the developers, Mortal Kombat 1 will offer a wide variety of modes, including NetherRealm’s genre-defining Story Mode. In addition to the single-player mode, Mortal Kombat 1 also supports various online and offline modes and aims to add cross-play and cross-progression post-launch.
▍Mortal Kombat 1 Pre-Order Bonus & Editions
The game’s Standard Edition is priced at USD$$69.99, while the Premium Edition is priced at USD$109.99, and Kollector’s Edition is priced at USD$249.99.
Premium and Kollector’s Editions include the Kombat Pack, early access to the game, and a considerable amount of Dragon Krystals, the game’s in-game currency. The Kollector’s Edition also comes with a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture, an exclusive Liu Kang in-game character skin, and more exclusive content.
Those who pre-order all the above editions will receive exclusive access to the character Shang Tsung. And those who pre-order on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will also have access to the beta held sometime in August 2023.
