About City Hunter

City Hunter is a manga series created by Tsukasa Hojo and was published in Weekly Shonen Jump between 1985 to 1991 with 35 volumes.

The series follows Ryo Saeba, a private detective who works to clean up Tokyo of crime, while also being a known sweeper, someone that’s always chasing pretty girls with a lax attitude. He works with his friend Makimura in a business called “City Hunter”, which does all manners of jobs so long as you contact them by writing the letters XYZ at Shinjuku.

One day Ryo’s partner Makimura is murdered and he’s left to take care of his sister, Kaori. The two hit it off despite Kaori often being offended by Ryo’s endless pursuit of other women, and they work together throughout various missions.

The series has been adapted into multiple anime series, seven films, multiple spin-off series, and even a live-action movie in 1993 starring Jackie Chan, which is very loosely based on the events of the manga in Hong Kong.
