Following up on its recent release of the Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon, developer Arc System Works announced that the ports of the classic beat-em-up series Super Double Dragon and Double Dragon Advance are launching in Asia on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam. The two titles will be sold digital-only for JPY$990.
Additionally, a separate 6-in-1 compilation which includes both aforementioned titles will be released as the Double Dragon Collection exclusively for the Switch, available both physically and digitally for JPY$ 3,520. All three games are set to launch on November 9, 2023.
▍Double Dragon Collection Gameplay
Releasing its first game back in 1987 and developed by now-defunct Technōs Japan, the original Double Dragon game was most well recognized for its focus on 2-player co-op, as well as being a direct inspiration to later beat-em-up titles in the genre such as Golden Axe, Ninja Gaiden, and Final Fight.
During gameplay, players will fight through several stages and bosses playing as the iconic brothers, Billy and Jimmy Lee. As successors of the martial art known as Sōsetsuken, the two brothers are tasked with rescuing their love interest Marian from the clutches of the criminal organization known as the Black Warriors gang.
The collection compiles four extra games on top of Super Double Dragon and Double Dragon Advance, adding the first quadrilogy of games. Hailed as the epitome of the series, players will be able to experience these classic titles for the first time since their original release three decades ago!
Each title features significant iterations to the formula, notably Super adding mechanics such as SP meters that allow the Lee Brothers to perform powerful attacks. Advanced would also add a new Survival mode to the mix, in which the player must defeat as many adversaries as possible in a single life, aiming for a high score.
