The lovely Lum will return next year following the debut of the second season of the new Urusei Yatsura anime in January 2024. The announcement comes with a key visual offering a new look at our favorite Oni alien and the new characters that will debut in the new season!
The second season will continue to follow the joyful love life(?) between Ataru and Lum, and according to the new visual, we can expect a much messier encounter with the addition of Shinobu, Mendou, Ran, Oyuki, Benten, and more!
Also, in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Urusei Yatsura manga by Rumiko Takahashi, the 39th issue of the Weekly Shōnen Sunday, which will publish on August 23, will feature celebratory illustrations created by multiple famed manga artists, including Detective Conan author Gosho Aoyama, Touch author Mitsuru Adachi, and One Piece author Eiichiro Oda!
The original Urusei Yatsura manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday from 1978 to 1987 and was later published in 34 tankōbon volumes. It was adapted into a TV anime aired from 1981 to 1986. The series tells the story of Ataru Moroboshi, and the alien Lum, who believes she is Ataru’s wife after he accidentally proposes to her.

Ataru Moroboshi’s supernatural encounters with the feminine kind all start when he’s chosen to play tag with an alien princess named Lum who invades the earth on her UFO. Ataru has ten days to touch Lum’s horns or aliens will take over the globe. As it turns out, the game of tag is only the beginning of Ataru’s troubles, as he continues to attract strange encounters with otherworldly beings like the beautiful snow spirit Oyuki and the sexy crow goblin Princess Kurama.
