The third post-launch content update for SEGA’s open-world title Sonic Frontiers titled The Final Horizon Update will be launching on September 28. A teaser trailer was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023 confirming that it will add new story content, playable characters, and new challenges to the game!
The trailer shows off Sonic and his crew (curiously reverted to their cyberspace-trapped forms) facing off against an all-new multi-armed colossus. As a small spoiler to the game’s story, it appears that Dr. Robotnik and Sage are by Sonic’s side in this fight that appears to have undone the blue hedgehog’s feats on Starfall Islands.
This was followed up by Sonic transforming into his Super Sonic form with the Chaos Emeralds, only this time appearing to gain a new, heightened version of his powered-up state. The new form showed Sonic now engulfed in sparks and now sporting glowing blue eyes instead of his usual red.
The Final Horizon Update for Sonic Frontiers will be available free for anyone who owns the game and will mark the third and final update that was shown in the content roadmap. The game has enjoyed The Sights, Sounds, and Speed DLC in March and the Sonic’s Birthday update in June, both of which added much new content for fans to sink their teeth into. Final Horizon will be the most substantial update thus far, as it seems to expand upon the story of Sonic Frontiers!
