Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake II appeared on Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new trailer. While the previously revealed trailer made the new protagonist Saga Anderson its focal point, the latest preview shifts focus to the titular Alan Wake, as he finds himself trapped in The Dark Place.
The latest glimpse at The Dark Place showed off Alan in a new kind of hell, as he finds himself in duress as he finds himself swept away from his dimly lit writing desk to suddenly sitting at a talk show and being filmed in front of an audience.
Described by the game’s creative director Sam Lake as a dream world that manifested from the tortured mind of Wake, the dimension seems to be hellbent on tormenting him seemingly forever. Taking the stage after the showing of the trailer, Lake explained that after the events of the original game, Alan Wake has been trapped in The Dark Place for 13 years.
Much like other games made by Remedy in the past, Alan Wake II will interweave liberal amounts of live-action shots and likenesses to its narrative. The latest trailer also showcased that the creative director himself would appear in the game offering curious remarks to the troubled writer, perhaps hinting that his character will play an integral role in Wake’s story.
Alan Wake II is set to launch on October 27, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games store.
