TV anime adaptation of Yako Gureishi’s (暮石ヤコ) fantasy manga Somali and the Forest Spirit (ソマリと森の神様) reveals a new PV today (26th August). The anime will premiere in January 2020.
With the opening theme song “Arigatō Wa Kocchi no Kotoba” (ありがとうはこっちの言葉) performed and written by singer-songwriter Naotarō Moriyama (森山直太朗), the PV showcases a stunning animation highlighting the bondings of the father and daughter.
The series is animated by Satelight, with Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens director Kenji Yasuda (安田賢司) directing the series and Ikuko Itoh (伊藤郁子) designing the characters. Voice of Somali, Inori Minase (水瀬 いのり) will perform the ending theme song, Kokoro Somali (ココロソマリ).
▍Story
The anime follows the heartwarming story between a golem and a lone human girl, Somali, who meets in the forest after a devastating war wiping out all mankind.
Under a magical world populated by spirits, monsters, and talking animals, Somali disguises as non-human and takes a mysterious adventure with the golem that she calls her “Father,” in the hope of searching for her kind.
“Father” is a watchman, a protector of the forest, with a great many abilities that helps them on their journey. However, good time never lasts and the functioning period of her “father” is destined to end after 1 year and 112 days.
