Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Kunihiko Ikuhara’s “Penguindrum” original anime, the compilation film project “Re:cycle of Penguindrum” will open in 2022 with two parts. A logo for the movie was also revealed.
The project is set to re-edit all 24 episodes of the original anime while adding in some new scenes as well. Meanwhile, the original “Penguindrum” series is being uploaded to YouTube weekly as part of the anniversary plan. The episodes will be available for a limited time only.
The movie will be directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara, with manga artist Lily Hoshino handling the character draft designs. Lapin Track is the animation studio instead of BRAIN’S BASE, which animated the TV series.
▍About the Series
“Penguindrum” is an original TV anime series that aired in 2011. The psychological drama story begins when a girl named Himari Takakura passes away after going out on a trip with her brothers Kanba and Shōma. A spirit in a penguin hat appears and miraculously saves her. However, in exchange for saving Himari’s life, the brothers must search for the Penguindrum for the spirit. A trio of strange penguins accompany the siblings on their quest.
