The compilation film project Re:cycle of Penguindrum‘s first part, Your Train Is a Survival Strategy, is confirmed to open in Japan’s theatres on April 29, 2022. In coincidence with the announcement, a teaser trailer and two posters were unveiled.
Re:cycle of the Penguindrum is a two-part compilation film project to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original anime directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara.
The project is set to re-edit all 24 episodes of the original anime while adding in some new scenes as well. The key visuals show characters on a train reminiscent of a dark underwater world, with penguins and apples floating in the sky. The special announcement starts with the line, “The train brought us back to this town again,” and the words spoken by Kanba and Akima bring new mysteries to the film.
In addition, a limited edition Blu-Ray box, “Penguindrum Blu-ray RE:BOX [Limited Edition]” will be released today on December 22. The soundtrack of the TV series also released today. In commemoration of this, the original Penguindrum anime series of will be aired on BS11 from 24:00 today, with a brand new commercial for the movie.

▍About Penguindrum
Penguindrum is an original TV anime series that aired in 2011. The psychological drama story begins when a girl named Himari Takakura passes away after going out on a trip with her brothers Kanba and Shōma. A spirit in a penguin hat appears and miraculously saves her. However, in exchange for saving Himari’s life, the brothers must search for the Penguindrum for the spirit. A trio of strange penguins accompany the siblings on their quest.
