MBS announced that it is adapting Ryo Minenami’s “suicide love story” manga, Boy’s Abyss (Shonen no Abyss) into a Live-Action tv show. The show features Towa Araki as the main protagonist, Reiji Kurose. Ryo Minenami also released an illustration celebrating the announcement, showing the main characters of the Boy’s Abyss manga.
Trapped in the countryside, believing he will spend his last days in the town he was born in, Reiji Kurose he will someday die in this place, unable to leave his mother alone with his dysfunctional family. One day, he comes across an idol from his favorite idol group, and his life is changed forever, as he becomes enraptured in scandals, and is pulled into an abyss that threatens to tear him apart.
▍Boy’s Abyss Story
Reiji Kurose lives with his mother, his shut-in brother, and dementia-ridden grandmother. Unable to bear the thought of leaving his mother alone with his family, he stays in the countryside town he was born in, despite dreaming of going to university in Tokyo.
One day he comes across the idol Nagi Aoe from the group Acrylic, who took a break from her idol activities to work as a convenience store clerk. The idol tells Reiji of a place in the town called the “Lover’s Abyss” where lovers commit suicide. The pair attempt to kill themselves but fail, andReiji is rescued by his teacher. What follows is the town slowly becoming engulfed by the Abyss, warping their priorities, and Reiji soon discovers the truth behind the abyss, and how many he knows people also took the plunge.
