It has now been revealed that Kazuki Takahashi didn’t die from suicide or foul play, but rather his death was attributed to his attempt at saving three other people who were caught in a riptide at Mermaid’s Grotto in Onna Okinawa.

Major Robert Borgeau who is part of the 10th support group stationed at Torii Station in Yomitan, spotted multiple people stuck in a riptide at the tourist attraction. During the chaotic rescue attempt, the major didn’t see that Kazuki Takahashi dived down into the thrashing waters to attempt to aid Borgeau in the rescue, and subsequently drowned.

Since the revelation, foul play has been ruled out from Takahashi’s death, and Borgeau commented later that the conditions were incredibly hard that day, and when asked about Takahashi, he commented: “He’s a hero, he died trying to save someone else.”
