Studio 4°C announced the production of the sci-fi anime film Future Kid Takara (tentative title), a completely original adventure-packed anime film set in a dystopian future devastated by the effects of climate change. The film is scheduled for release in 2025 and will be produced while working to reduce CO2 emissions.
Along with the announcement, character and scenario drafts were unveiled on its Kickstarter campaign site, which plans to fund the entire production costs, offering rewards for later 2023 for all project sponsors.
The sci-fi adventure movie is set in a dystopian future, when Sara, a modern-day girl who is time-warped to the year 2100 and along with the main character Takara, survives in a world devastated by global warming. The serious problems facing the global environment and the importance of taking action to decarbonize it will be conveyed through the animated film.
Yuta Sano is directing the film. His debuting animated short Red Ash: Gearworld (2015) showcased his talent for blending animation aesthetics with CGI. His latest work was as the director of Berserk: The Golden Age Arc Memorial Edition, which premiered in 2022.
The remaining production team of Future Kid Takara includes Shinji Kimura as setting and character designer, Eiko Tanaka as producer, Shun Hasegawa as animation producer, Kyoko Gendatsu as planning adviser, Seita Emori as science adviser, and Yuya Takashima as sci-fi supervisor.
