At today’s Anime Japan 2023, it was announced that the Korean webtoon A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special will be officially adapted as a TV anime series. The anime is scheduled to be broadcast in 2023.

While not much information was revealed, it was decided that Takuma Terashima, who you may know as Ray in Misfit at Demon Academy and Otoya from Uta no Prince Sama, will be the voice of Desir Arman, the protagonist of the tale. Furthermore, Crunchyroll has already confirmed that it will be streaming the anime.

The original webtoon of A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special was written by Yook So-Nan and illustrated by ORKA. A manhwa adaptation was made by Jeon Sun-Wook and illustrated by Yook So-Nan. The original novel spans a grand total of 315 chapters and has garnered over 4 million views. The manhwa is currently available through Yen Press.

The story of A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special starts with the most catastrophic existence humanity has faced in history: the Shadow World. Mysterious parallel realms with endless floors, each one defying the laws of humanity suddenly appears, with monsters seeping out of there, killing most of the human population. Desir Arman is one of the six remaining survivors of mankind. Together, they all attempted to clear the final level of the Shadow World, but ultimately failed, and the world came to an end.
