Developers MegaPixel Studio and publisher Forever Entertainment announced that Front Mission 1st: Remake will be arriving on June 30 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store for USD$34.99. A 10%-off discount will be available on all new platforms until July 12, and a playable demo is downloadable for PC via Steam.
Initially released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on November 30, 2022, Front Mission 1st: Remake reimagines the original mecha tactical RPG classic released on PlayStation in 1995. Developed by Square (currently Square Enix), the game features brand-new game modes, tweaks to the gameplay/mechanics, and includes a fully orchestrated version of its legendary soundtrack.
Front Mission 1st: Remake is currently available on the Nintendo Switch. The game will support Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, and Traditional Chinese languages.

In the year 2090, the world’s conflicts are fought using giant war machines called Wanzers. Huffman Island, the only place where the Oceania Cooperative Union (OCU) and the Unified Continental States (UCS) share a land border is a hotbed of conflict.
The plot of the first entry in the series revolves around OCU (Oceania Cooperative Union) captain Royd Clive as he and his unit are deployed to a UCS munitions plant on an investigatory mission. Finding themselves ambushed by opposing forces Wanzers, the event becomes the impetus for an all-out war. Amidst the action, Royd’s fiancée, Lieutenant Karen Meure, goes missing in action.
The remake features a complete graphical overhaul of the game featuring updated character models and environments. The game’s iconic soundtrack can be enjoyed both in its original form and in the newer reorchestrated soundtrack that aims to elevate the gaming experience of the classic Front Mission Series.
▍Front Mission 1st: Remake Gameplay
The game is a tactical RPG where players commandeer pilots operating the ‘Wanzers’ going through different levels selectable from a world map. Each point on the map represents war zones and towns where players can fight or organize and set up their units for combat encounters.
Built from four separate modular parts, each Wanzer has four separate HP bars that are tied to specific actions, and when fully depleted, the mech loses its ability to use those bodily functions. For example, the leg parts enable movement and evasion, while the arms are necessary for operating Wanzer’s weaponry.
Each Wanzer unit can be fully customized in different ways to fine-tune them for specific tasks, with the game combining team-building from traditional TRPGs with mech customizations akin to titles like Armored Core.
