With a box office of 3,840 million yen alone in Japan last year, live action Gintama aims to hit a new high with a sequel – Gintama 2 (tentative title) (銀魂２). The movie is coming 17th August this year.
According to the director Yuichi Fukuda’s twitter, filming has already begun. The arc that the coming work is based on is not yet revealed, but the confirmed cast which includes Kiheitai and Shinsengumi members may say something about the story.
Gintama is adapted from the manga of the same title, which is illustrated and written by Hideaki Sorachi (空知英秋), and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. It is coming to an end this month.
In the first movie, Sakata Gintoki is portrayed by Oguri Shun, Kagura is portrayed by Hashimoto Kanna and Shimura Shinpachi is by Suda Masaki. Other actors includes Masami Nagasawa (Tae Shimura), Okada Masaki (Kotaro Katsura), Tsuyoshi Muro (Gengai Hiraga), Yūya Yagira (Toshirou Hijikata), Ryo Yoshizawa (Sougo Okita), Kankuro Nakamura (Isao Kondou), Tsuyoshi Domoto (Shinsuke Takasugi). It is adapted from the Benizakura Arc of the original manga. In this arc, Kotaro Katsura is attacked by a member of Kiheitai. The Yorozuya trio (Gintoki, Shinpachi and Kagura) then go searching for him, and the searching eventually turns into bloodshed.
