The 10-episode series will be produced by Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha. Tomorrow Studios is also in charge of another live-action Netflix series adaptation of sci-fi TV anime series, Cowboy Bebop.
“Lost” and “The X-Files” writer Steven Maeda is credited as the writer, showrunner and executive producer, while “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” Matt Owens is writer/executive producer.
One Piece’s creator Eiichiro Oda will serve as the executive producer. Netflix also posted Oda’s comment on its official Twitter, mentioning that the project has been announced in 2017 as part of the manga’s 20th anniversary celebration.
“I know I announced the production of this back in 2017, but these things take time! Preparations have been slowly progressing behind the scenes, and it seems that I can finally make the big announcement,” he said. “This is so encouraging!! How far will the story progress over the 10 episodes of Season 1? Who will be cast!? Please be patient a little longer and stay tuned!!”
