Vocaloid fans have long waited for an authentic smartphone title that comes with their favorite virtual singers, and soon your dreams will come true.
Crafted by Sega Games and Craft Egg’s newly established studio Colorful Palette, the rhythm mobile game “Project Sekai Colorful Stage ft. Hatsune Miku” (プロジェクトセカイ カラフルステージ！feat. 初音ミク) has opened for pre-registration and is set to release this year. Before it is released, QooApp gives a sneak peek on its game system with its recent CBT held in June.
▍Familiar Songs With Fresh Takes
The CBT includes several renowned Vocaloid songs, including MikitoP’s “Roki,” Easypop’s “Happy Synthesizer,” Giga-P’s “BRING IT ON,” Lon x Junky’s “Sweet Magic,” and nekobolo’s “Jishou Mushoku.” Performed by the game’s original units and the virtual singers, it gives a fresh take to these familiar tunes.
The game also includes the original version of the vocaloid songs, such as Miku’s version of “Tell Your World” and “Hibana Reloaded”, and “Blessing” performed by Miku, MEIKO, Kagamine Len, Rin, Megurine Luka, and KAITO. It is nice to know that both the old and new Vocaloid songs are available in the game, which serves as the perfect port for the virtual singers to release their new singles.
▍Smooth Gameplay, Easy to Pick Up
The rhythm part features a traditional top-down style of play along with swiping actions that add to the complexity and difficulty. If you get a Bad or miss Judgement, your HP will decrease and the game ends when HP reaches zero.
You can switch the track into 5 difficulty levels with a choice between Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert and Master. Rhythm game novice can pick up Easy, Normal and Hard without breaking a sweat. However, the Master level can only unlock when you get at least 5 Good judgements and it is not an easy job! In Expert and Master levels, prepare yourself for some fast double hits, mixing with hold and drag notes. You can also select the songs in 2D or 3D mode, which makes the virtual singers comes to life with vivid dance performance.

The game also gives a little surprise by presenting the notes in different patterns and words. For example, in the track “Roki,” the words “ROKI” and “ROCK’N’ROLL” can be found on the screen. The creativity and efforts of the production team really impresses.
▍Customize Your One-And-Only Performance
In “Project Sekai,” players will be able to change the costumes and accessories of the virtual singers. The customized outlook is showcased in the 3D MV mode. Some of the costumes are created exclusively for the game, so you can create a unique performance for Miku that nowhere can ever be seen.
Costumes and accessories can be obtained by drawing the gacha or completing missions. You can also collect materials and use it to make stage costumes. Playing songs can get you different materials, so it certainly drives you to challenge different difficulty levels. You can also buy Premium Pass to get exclusive items and stage costumes.

■ 3D MV mode, Patchwork Staccato (Level: EXPERT)
Unfortunately, the CBT didn’t open the main story and the gacha function, so the above may not be the complete experience. We only have a glance to the prologue of the fully-voiced story, but the vivid live 2D performance already impresses. The interaction between the virtual singers and game’s original characters is definitely something that you can look forward to.
Like any other idol rhythm game, you will get cards with different skills in the gacha system. Some of the illustrations have been revealed on the official Twitter and they look awesome! The game also gets a co-op mode where you can form teams to play songs with your friends (just like the one in “BanG dream!”). It is not something new, but it is always fun to compare who gets higher scores.
The official site now opens for pre-registration. You will be able to obtain crystals equivalent to 11 times gacha, special costumes for the virtual singers and ★3 or above character guarantee gacha ticket when the pre-registration reaches 600,000. Go and support your virtual singers!
