During the Pokémon Presents 18.8.21 live-stream, a new trailer for the previously announced new Pokémon title, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, was unveiled. The new trailer revealed new gameplay mechanics to the Pokémon series and announced the announced date for the upcoming new game for 28th January 2022. The game is also available for pre-order now!
▍About the Game
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a brand new game to the Pokémon series. The game introduces a new action element to the Pokémon RPG series. Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in the Hisui Region which will be known as the Sinnoh Region in the future. The game will take place in a “long-ago era where it is rare for people to live in harmony alongside Pokémon”.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player will set off on a journey with the goal of completing the first-ever Pokédex of the region. On their journey, the player will be recognized by the commander of the Galaxy Expedition Team, Commander Komado, and will join the Survey Corp whose main function is to research Pokémon. Players will also work alongside the different corps in the expedition team including together with the Medical Corp and the Security Corp.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus will introduce a couple of new features to the Pokémon RPG series. First, in the wild, Pokémon will interact with the player differently. Some Pokémon will remain relatively peaceful as the player approaches, some may flee at the sight of the player, and others may be more aggressive and attack the player on sight. If the player takes too much damage, they will blackout.
Different from the previous Pokémon RPG titles, in the new game, players can directly throw Poké Balls at wild Pokémon. Different Pokémon will require different tactics to capture. Players can also initial battles with wild Pokémon by throwing a Poké Ball holding their Pokémon near a wild Pokémon.
Pokémon Battles will also have drastic changes. The most significant change is that whilst Pokémon battles are still turn-based, Pokémon can act multiple times in a row depending on their speed and the move they use. Pokémon Legends: Arceus also introduces battle styles to Pokémon battles every move in the game can be performed in the Strong Style and the Agile Style. The Strong Style will increase the Pokémon’s move but lower the Pokémon’s speed. The Agile Style does the opposite, lowering the move’s power but increasing the Pokémon’s speed. By switching between the two different styles, players can draw up new strategies to winning the battle.
